Pilates teacher training can open several doors, but the route you choose matters. Some people start with matwork, some are drawn straight to reformer, and some want both because they can see how the two skills support each other.
Matwork builds the teaching foundation
Matwork asks you to understand the body without relying on equipment. You learn core principles, alignment, progressions, regressions, cueing, class structure, and how to support mixed ability groups with clarity.
Reformer adds precision and opportunity
Reformer Pilates is in huge demand because it feels premium, measurable, and adaptable. Training on the reformer teaches you springs, carriage control, transitions, programming, and how to use the machine to support both strength and control.
Both routes together can widen your options
If you want to work in studios, gyms, private settings, retreats, or your own business, holding both qualifications can make you more versatile. Matwork gives you portability. Reformer gives you access to one of the fastest-growing areas of boutique fitness.
Choose based on where you want to teach
If you want to teach community classes, corporate sessions, or online movement, matwork may be the best first step. If you want to work inside reformer studios, the reformer route is essential. If you want maximum flexibility, combining both is the strongest route.
Ask about prerequisites before you commit
For reformer training, you may need a matwork qualification first or to complete the matwork route alongside it. If you are unsure, speak to Rosie and we can help you choose the cleanest pathway.
