Your first class
What happens in the room
Yoga classes at R1SE are 60-75 minutes. The structure is broadly the same whether you're in Hot Vinyasa, Hot Chill, or a non-heated session.
- 1
Arrive and sign in
Pop into R1SE Brook Place (112 Napier Street) or R1SE Kelham (8 Shepherd Street) ten minutes before class. We'll show you the changing rooms, get you signed up, and let you settle in.
- 2
Walk into the studio
Find a space and set up your mat. Hot yoga studios run at 35°C, so it feels warm immediately. Lie down or sit on your mat; the instructor will introduce themselves before class starts.
- 3
Centring and warm-up
Most classes open with a few minutes of seated centring, breath work and gentle movement. This is where you'll learn the basic breath cue (often Ujjayi) and start to feel grounded.
- 4
Standing flow or sequence
The bulk of the class. Standing postures, sun salutations or a Vinyasa flow. Your instructor will offer modifications throughout. You can always rest in Child's Pose at any point; no one notices and no one minds.
- 5
Floor work and stretching
Toward the end of class the practice moves to the floor: forward folds, hip openers, twists, sometimes a few backbends. The hardest physical work is usually behind you by this point.
- 6
Savasana
Five to ten minutes of total stillness, lying on your back. This is genuinely part of the class. Don't leave early. Many members describe Savasana as the most important part of their week.
